Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common reproductive endocrine disease among women of childbearing age. Around 70% of the infertile women coming to our clinic are with PCOS, In fact 5-10% of teens and young women with irregular menses have this diagnosis. we all know homoeopathy is gaining acceptance and popularity among the people lot of patients are coming to us every day with PCOS.
The name “Poly”, meaning “many”, and “Cystic”, meaning “cysts”, refer to the fact that those with PCOS may have enlarged ovaries that contain many very small cysts. Normally during a menstrual cycle only one egg will releases when it grows up to around 18 mm but in pcos more than 15 small follicles develop in the ovary but they will not grow more than 10 mm and the ovulation will not takes. The outer wall of the ovaries thickens giving the ovary a polycystic appearance. These cysts are not cancerous and do not need to do laparoscopy, if we do laparoscopy with in 3 months after laparoscopy condition will be same as before
women with PCOS commonly have one or more signs
- Irregular periods-periods that come every few months, not at all, or too frequently
- Hirsutism-extra hair on the face or other body parts
- Acne
- Weight gain and/or trouble losing weight, and in some cases, obesity
- Patches of dark skin on the back of the neck and other areas, called “acanthosis nigricans”
- Infertility or impaired fertility due to irregular periods or lack of ovulation
What causes PCOS?
PCOS is caused by an imbalance in the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland that in turn affects the ovaries. Many girls with PCOS also have higher than normal levels of insulin from the pancreas. PCOS usually happens when the Latinizing hormone (LH) levels or the insulin levels are too high, which results in extra testosterone production by the ovary.
- Having PCOS means that the female’s ovaries are not getting the right hormonal signals from her pituitary gland. Without these signals she will not ovulate regularly. Her periods may be irregular or absent.
- What is happening in normal menses ?
- Normally the menstrual cycle starts when the brain sends LH and FSH to the ovaries. A big surge of LH is the signal that tells the ovaries to ovulate, or release a ripe egg.
- The egg travels down the fallopian tube and into the uterus. Progesterone from the ovary tells the lining of the uterus to thicken.
- If the egg isn’t fertilized, the lining of the uterus is shed and the menstrual period will start.
- After the menstrual period, the cycle begins all over again.
What is happening in pcos ?
PCOS is caused by an imbalance in the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland that in turn affects the ovaries. Many girls with PCOS also have higher than normal levels of insulin from the pancreas. PCOS usually happens when the luteinizing hormone (LH) levels or the insulin levels are too high, which results in extra testosterone production by the ovary.
Having PCOS means that the female’s ovaries are not getting the right hormonal signals from her pituitary gland. Without these signals she will not ovulate regularly. Her periods may be irregular or absent. In PCOS, LH levels are often high when the menstrual cycle starts. The levels of LH are also higher than FSH levels. Because the LH levels are already quite high, the surge that sets off the chain reaction causing ovulation does not happen. Without this LH surge, ovulation does not occur and periods are irregular.. Many women with PCOS have trouble getting pregnant .In allopathy they are giving antidiabatic drug, and hormones and also laparoscopy
What can we do with Homeopathic medicines
Treatment of PCOS primarily involves prescribing a constitutional Homeopathic remedy capable of working on the ovaries and the entire endocrinal system. This approach usually helps in correcting the pathology associated with PCOD.
